During pregnancy, you may not experience the glow everyone is talking about. Get back some glamour by trying some of the suggestions below.
Get your hair professionally done. Some women feel the need to completely change their looks by cutting off their hair or by chemically altering it. However, if you want to do something less drastic, try highlights. The dye will cover strands of your hair but not touch your scalp. The American Pregnancy Association suggests the safest time to dye your hair during pregnancy is in the third trimester. A blowout is a risk-free answer for those who wish to change their hair without chemical exposure.
Expand your exercise horizon. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise per day. Try water aerobics for a low-impact cardio option. Exercising helps alleviate some discomfort during your pregnancy, helps prevent gestational diabetes, and relieves stress. Talk with your obstetrician before starting anything new, especially if you experience complications. Remember, you do not have to maintain the same pace as before your pregnancy.
Buy a pregnancy pillow. Pregnancy pillows provide extra comfort and support and can help resolve pregnancy-related sleep issues. A body pillow, wedge or J- or U-shaped pillow can help you get a more comfortable night’s sleep with your new shape. No one pillow works for everyone, so research extensively to find your perfect fit.
Experience fancy foods. Plan a night out with your partner or your girlfriends near the end of your pregnancy. Wear something glamorous and treat yourself to a nice meal at an upscale restaurant. Remember to be extra cautious about what you eat during your pregnancy. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, limit the amount of fish you eat to 12 ounces per week, and make sure foods are not in the “danger zone,” between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Enjoy a spa day. Intense body aches that often develop during the third trimester can be one of the more painful aspects of pregnancy. Try going to the spa to help soothe your aching body. If you cannot make it to the spa, ask your partner for a foot rub, or enjoy a relaxing bath at your own convenience.
